The growing trend of cosmetic surgery has become more prominent in recent years, with numerous celebrities openly discussing their experiences and, at times, their regrets. One such celebrity is Reid Ewing, known for his role on Modern Family, who has candidly opened up about his personal struggles with plastic surgery addiction.
In a revealing blog post, Ewing shared that his journey into cosmetic surgery began at the young age of 19. He explained that he initially sought out a cosmetic surgeon in hopes of achieving what he thought would be a more “Brad Pitt-like” appearance. “I genuinely believed if I had one procedure, I would suddenly look like Brad Pitt,” he confessed.
However, Ewing’s journey quickly turned into a downward spiral. After undergoing the surgery, he spent two weeks isolating himself from others, hiding behind a full facial mask. When he finally removed the mask, the results were far from what he had expected. His face was severely swollen, leaving him unable to make any excuses for his altered appearance. With panic setting in, the actor decided to take refuge in his Los Angeles apartment for another week, hoping the swelling would subside.
Desperate for a quick fix, Ewing returned to his original surgeon, but was told that he would need to wait six months before any further procedures could be performed. Undeterred, the actor sought out another surgeon, despite knowing that the new doctor was less experienced. “I didn’t care,” Ewing admitted, but the decision would soon prove to be another mistake. The surgery left him with an uncomfortable result — his chin implant became movable under his skin, allowing him to shift it from one side of his face to the other.
This setback led Ewing to undergo yet another procedure, followed by several more surgeries with different surgeons over the next two years. Each new surgery seemed to create new problems that required additional interventions. By 2012, Ewing made a firm decision to stop pursuing cosmetic surgeries altogether, despite still harboring insecurities about his appearance.
Reflecting on his tumultuous journey, the actor offered a cautionary message about the dangers of cosmetic surgery. “Plastic surgery is not always a bad thing. It often helps people who actually need it for serious cases, but it’s a horrible hobby, and it will eat away at you until you have lost all self-esteem and joy,” Ewing wrote. He expressed deep regret, wishing he could go back in time and undo all of the surgeries. “Now I can see that I was fine to begin with and didn’t need the surgeries after all,” he concluded.
Ewing’s story serves as a stark reminder of the psychological toll that the pursuit of physical perfection can have, and the importance of self-acceptance in a world obsessed with aesthetics.
