Disha Eye Hospitals, the largest and most advanced eye care network in Eastern India, has marked a significant milestone by becoming the first eye hospital in West Bengal to participate in the 48th International Kolkata Book Fair (IKBF). The hospital’s participation aims to raise awareness about the vital connection between good vision, reading, and overall well-being.
Disha Eye Hospitals has introduced several impactful initiatives at the Book Fair to engage the public and promote eye health. The hospital is offering a range of free services and awareness campaigns, focusing on both the prevention of eye-related diseases and the importance of eye donation.
AI-Driven Diabetic Retinopathy Screening
One of the key highlights of Disha’s participation is the free, AI-powered diabetic retinopathy screening. This cutting-edge service aims to address the growing concern of diabetes-induced eye complications. The initiative promotes early detection, helping attendees understand the importance of timely intervention in preventing vision loss caused by diabetes.
Eye Donation Awareness Campaign
In addition to the screening, Disha Eye Hospitals is conducting an eye donation awareness campaign. As the largest cornea collection organization in Eastern India, Disha, through its Prova Eye Bank (the region’s third-largest eye bank), is encouraging people to pledge for eye donation. The campaign highlights the profound impact of cornea donation, which can restore vision to two individuals with just one donation.
The campaign has particularly focused on engaging the younger generation, aiming to empower them to spread the message and encourage eye donation pledges. According to hospital officials, pledging to donate corneas can save countless lives, allowing recipients to regain their sight and lead independent lives.
As of today, over 150 individuals have pledged to donate their corneas, with significant participation from local police, fire, and bomb squad personnel, who have been specially recognized for their dedication to society.
A Successful Blend of Healthcare and Literature
Disha Eye Hospitals’ participation at the IKBF has proven to be a resounding success, blending healthcare services with the celebration of literature and intellectual engagement. The hospital’s initiatives have not only educated the public on critical health issues but also demonstrated its commitment to the community’s well-being in a creative and impactful way.
By integrating eye health advocacy with a cultural event like the International Kolkata Book Fair, Disha Eye Hospitals has set a new standard for community outreach and public health awareness.
