Teddi Mellencamp, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, was scheduled for brain surgery on Wednesday, just a day after learning that her recent severe headaches were linked to multiple brain tumors.
In an emotional post shared on Instagram, Mellencamp, daughter of rocker John Mellencamp, revealed that she had been struggling with intense and debilitating headaches for several weeks. “Yesterday, the pain was unbearable and required hospitalization,” she wrote. Following a CT scan and MRI, doctors discovered multiple tumors in her brain, which they believe had been developing over the last six months.
Mellencamp, who filed for divorce from her second husband, Edwin Arroyave, in November, documented her hospital experience on Instagram. She shared a video showing her having her blonde hair shaved off, quipping to her brother Hud Mellencamp that her new look was “giving his close-shorn ’do a run for [his] money.” Hud later reposted the video, humorously promising to “get her faded up” when she was ready.
Minutes before heading to the operating room, Mellencamp posted a final video with family and friends surrounding her in her hospital room. She expressed her gratitude toward them, as well as the healthcare professionals who had been assisting her throughout the process. “Two of the tumors will be surgically removed today,” she explained. “The remaining smaller tumors will be dealt with via radiation at a later date.”
This recent health battle comes after Mellencamp’s previous struggle with melanoma. In 2022, she was diagnosed with skin cancer and had a couple of melanoma spots excised. Mellencamp had also reported feeling anxiety last summer, following the discovery of lumps in her neck and back.
Mellencamp was a mainstay on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills from 2017 to 2020 and has appeared as a guest star in subsequent seasons. She also made guest appearances on The Real Housewives of Orange County.
