Veteran Hong Kong actress Kara Wai Ying-hung, renowned for her contributions to the Asian film industry, recently shared that she underwent cosmetic surgery as a result of injuries sustained during her extensive career in martial arts films. Wai, known for her fearless roles in action-packed movies, spoke candidly about her experiences during a recent appearance on the Chinese reality show Everybody Stand By 3.
In response to a question about plastic surgery posed to the show’s contestants, Wai revealed that the decision to undergo surgery was prompted by necessity rather than aesthetics. “I’ve had 89 stitches on my face because of many injuries,” she said, referring to wounds inflicted by stunt work that damaged her lips, eye corners, and forehead. Wai explained that the decision to pursue cosmetic procedures was one she made for her health and well-being, emphasizing that if there’s a need for such surgery, there is no shame in it.
Her honesty was met with widespread admiration, with many fans praising her commitment to her craft. Wai, whose career has been defined by her daring physical performances, has suffered numerous injuries, including six reported fractures during filming.
Rising to prominence in the 1980s with iconic wuxia films, Wai continues to inspire the next generation of talent, balancing her legendary past with her current role as a mentor on Everybody Stand By 3.
