In 2019, Shepard Smith made headlines when he unexpectedly left his long-time role at Fox News. Despite earning a reported $15 million annually, the veteran journalist cited his personal ethics as the driving force behind his departure, explaining that he could no longer work alongside his increasingly partisan colleagues. Smith, however, reappeared on television in 2020 when he joined CNBC to anchor The News with Shepard Smith, a position he held until 2022.
Smith quickly became a familiar face once again on TV, known for his sharp features, including his arched eyebrows and round cheeks. The striking look led to online speculation about possible cosmetic surgery, with some social media users even confusing him for Republican politician Matt Gaetz in posts about rumored plastic surgeries. The resemblance, particularly in their similar angular eyebrows, sparked debate across platforms.
To address these speculations, it consulted Dr. Michael Niccole, a board-certified plastic surgeon and founder of CosmetiCare Plastic Surgery Center & MedSpa in Newport Beach, California. Dr. Niccole shared his professional assessment, revealing that while he doesn’t believe Smith has undergone major surgical procedures such as a facelift, the signs of Botox or other cosmetic treatments, such as chemical peels or laser procedures, are evident in recent photos. He pointed out that Smith’s facial appearance shows signs of skin treatments, which could explain his youthful, glowing look.
Dr. Niccole also suggested that the on-air makeup application, often heavy for television personalities to counter studio lighting, might be contributing to Smith’s polished appearance. In fact, Smith was once caught on air reapplying setting powder during a live segment, illustrating the level of makeup involved in his on-screen look. According to Niccole, the skin’s redness in a particular image suggests a possible recent treatment like a laser procedure.
While Smith’s smoother, more contoured face could indicate cosmetic work, Niccole suggested that it might simply be the result of weight loss or natural facial contouring. Ultimately, the doctor emphasized that no definitive signs of major cosmetic surgery were present. Instead, well-maintained skincare and minimal Botox injections could be responsible for much of the ongoing speculation surrounding the former Fox News anchor’s appearance.
